RETN Enhances Copenhagen-Stockholm Network Connectivity

Copenhagen/London/Stockholm – March 18, 2024 - RETN, the leading independent global network services provider, announces a 900 kilometre backbone upgrade in Denmark and Sweden, that will boost connectivity between Copenhagen and Stockholm. Utilising Infinera's cutting-edge equipment, the deployment of the latest-generation EDFA and Raman amplifiers specifically optimised for modern flex-grid DWDM systems, increases configuration flexibility, accelerates implementation, and improves reliability.

The upgrade introduces additional redundancy across the Copenhagen Metro area, and reinforces network resilience between Copenhagen–Stockholm and existing routes between Copenhagen–Hamburg. It establishes a more direct and efficient route between Malmö and Copenhagen via the Øresundsbron, the iconic bridge connecting Denmark and Sweden, thereby eliminating the need for subsea cables.

To further bolster reliability, RETN has reduced the amplifier count from 10 to 9 by utilising more powerful units, diminishing potential failure points and lowering power consumption.

"The switch to a modern flex-grid generation system enhances Spectrum efficiency and allows for higher bandwidth, in a route engineered to accommodate vast data capacities. These enhancements cater to the surging demand for high-capacity, secure and reliable internet and data services, and offer additional supplier diversity. We look forward to adding new routes in the region.” said Timur Pertenava, Commercial Director of Nordic and Baltics at RETN.
